Catch Basins
Catch basins are grated storm inlets that collect rainwater and snowmelt from streets and parking lots and channel the water to pipelines that transport the runoff to drainage ditches, rivers, and lakes. Catch basins filter debris and contain it for cleanout before the debris can enter storm sewers. Debris can lead to clogs and reduce the effectiveness of drainage systems.
Catch basins are located along curbs of streets, low grades in parking lots, and the rear yards of properties. During intense rain events, catch basins pond. Following the storm, runoff will slowly drain into the storm sewer.
